Registration of Title for Chartered Building Surveyors
The Building Control Act 2007 has provided for the registration of the use of the title of 'Quantity Surveyor' and also 'Building Surveyor'. The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley recently announced the implementation date of the sections of the Act relating to QS and BS registrations being May 1st 2008. The Society of Chartered Surveyors is named in the Act as the registration body.

 

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Accreditation Course, Conservation and Evaluation of Historic Buildings

A conservation group has been set up by the society, comprising of members specialising in conservation and heritage work.  The group caters for surveyors involved in conservation work, protected structures, and heritage buildings.  Rory Crosbie of R Crosbie and Associates is a member of this group having successfully completed the SCS Conservation course.

 

Draft National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People – Issued by Health, Information and Quality Authority – Health (Nursing Homes) Act 1990 launched 11 March 2008

Owners and operators of Nursing Homes will be fully aware that their premises are subject to independent inspections by teams attached to the Health, Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa).  They will also be aware that a set of minimum standards will apply to all residential settings where older people are cared for and for which registration is required.
